It is known for being the cradle of the largest indigenous ethnic group in Colombia, the Wayuu, who give rise to a culture of interest to those who visit these lands.

You can also enjoy the colorful bird watching of the Sanctuary of Flamingos to the southwest of the city. In the Central Plaza Padilla, is the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, from the 19th century.

The palm-shaded beach has a long pier. To the northeast are the windy beaches of Mayapo and the bright white salinas of Manaure.
